What are the terms used in the Call Break game?
There are mainly two terms used in the game of Call Break.
Hand: “Hand” means trick.
Call: “Call” means bid.
The Objective of the Game
The objective of a player playing a Call Break multiplayer game or Lakdi game is to score the highest points and prevent other players from scoring, by breaking their calls.
In a Call Break game, points are calculated after each round, and on completion of 5 rounds, points accrued across rounds are calculated and the player with the highest score wins the game.
The Call Break game is played using a deck of 52 cards where Spades serve as trump cards, meaning that all cards belonging to the suit of Spades have a greater value than cards from any other suit.
Dealing and Calling/Bidding
A Call Break taas game consists of five rounds. The first dealer is chosen randomly and the turn to deal next rotates counterclockwise from the first dealer in the game. 52 cards are dealt to four players, and everyone gets 13 cards.
Once cards have been dealt in a Call Break/Lakdi game, the player sitting to the right of the dealer has to make a call/bid. To make a call/bid in a Call Break game, a player has to call (make a bid on) a number, which must be minimum 1. The player has to win at least that number of hands/tricks in the round to get a positive score in the round. If he/she fails to do so, he/she ends up getting a negative score.
When the player sitting to the right of the dealer has made a call/bid, all the remaining players make a call each, in a counterclockwise direction, ending with the dealer.
Play
In a typical Call Break game, once all the players have made their bids/calls, the player sitting to the right of the dealer makes the first move with a card of his/her choice. The suit that card belongs to becomes the lead suit. Each of the other 3 players in a Call Break multiplayer game must play a higher value card of that suit to win the hand/trick. If they don’t have a higher value card of the lead suit, they can throw a lower value card but they won’t win the hand in that case. However, if they don’t have any cards belonging to the lead suit, they need to break the suit by playing any card belonging to the suit of Spades in a Call Break game.
If they don’t have a Spade either, they can throw a card belonging to any other suit. The player who plays the highest value card in the lead suit or the player who plays a Spade (the highest value Spade in case of more than one Spade thrown) wins the hand in a Lakdi game.
Scoring
When a player takes as many tricks or wins as many hands as his/her call, he/she gets a score equal to the call. In the event of additional hands won by a player, he/she gets 0.1 times extra points for each hand. At the end of the fifth round, each player’s aggregate score is calculated, and the player who scores the highest points wins the Call Break game/Lakdi game.
