The NHG standards for the general practitioner are indispensable for the general practitioner and for any other professional who has to do with the NHG standards. Other guidelines are also consulted via the database of the US National Guideline Clearinghouse and the website of some important guideline organizations (Nice, Sign et cetera). The articles found are assessed on relevance for the question and for first -line medicine. The quality of the research and the level of evidence are critically considered. The articles thus selected substantiate the conclusions and recommendations from the NHG standards.
