The world has seen much in its existence, and since the apocalypse, things have just gone to hell in a hand basket. Our crime rate is extreme, but given most of us are barely scraping by to survive, it's really little wonder. Due to the mega doses of radiation that lays over the cities like a thick, suffocating blanket, every pregnancy now result in identical twins. That might sound like no big deal, if not a little confusing, but in our world, it is a big deal. The government is rising again and trying to re-stake its claim on the world by enforcing impossible laws. With these pregnancies, the younger twin is always born with some kind of illness, either mental, physical or otherwise. They are the weakness in a society that is desperate to rise from the depths it has sunk to. The government has decreed that all twins must either be killed, or sent to other realms to work as slaves in mining camps and factories. I had such a twin. I might never have met him, except that my role as a law enforcer took me to one of these camps to settle a dispute among guards. It was strange just how alike we looked. Most people never get to see their twin, so there is no way to describe the striking similarities. Perhaps that was why it was so easy for him to strike me down in my weakest moment and take up as me in order to escape his fate. All I remember was waking up in that hellish place. My brother was sane compared to the madness that ran rampant in those camps. Without means of proving who I was, I was stuck here, and as it stood, my brother had several enemies. Until I could prove the discrepancy, I had to defend myself against these brutal foes.
